1. Getting out of your comfort zone: Whether it's a new project, a networking event, or a chance to study abroad, say yes first and figure out the how later. At Harvard there is always something going on, and so many times I was dead tired from school but whenever I was invited to a friend’s dinner or school event I always made the extra effort to say yes even if it was something I was not remotely interested in like a physics symposium. And adopting that attitude has truly changed my life with friendships and life learnings I wouldn’t have otherwise, so get out of your comfort zone and try out that rocklimbing gym, or go to that arts class or in my case go to that physics symposium because you never know what could happen when you get out of your comfort zone. Half of my most cherished friendships from Harvard came from these random encounters that happened because I said yes to something I normally would say no to, so next time you are on the fence about doing something outside of your comfort zone, just say yes.

2. Set big scary goals for yourself: For me, that was starting my own travel tech startup when I was at Harvard, for years I had this idea of creating the most used travel app that would make it easier to share peer to peer travel recommendations so people like you and me can easily create custom itineraries from trusted reviews while also allowing travelers with the most useful travel recommendations to make money with their content. Being at Harvard inspired me to stop waiting for the perfect moment, take the shot and do it anyway, even without a tech co-founder. And I worked really hard, and I really mean it, I don’t think I have ever done anthign remotely this challenging in my entire life and then covid came and the startup ultimately failed, but I don’t regret this experience for one second, I learned so much about business, app development, marketing and other skills that I wouldn’t have otherwise. Through persuing my big hairy and scary goals I was also able to talk to amazing people that I look up to, from business tycons, industry experts to serial investors that became lifelong mentors of mine. So if you don’t have any big hairy scary goal for yourself, this is your nudge to get one.

3. Letting go of things outside of your control: Being a student in the middle of the pandemic was hard, all of a sudden we all had to take classes online and it really downed on me to think what I would be missing out because of it. And through my struggle to deal with that unexpected situation, I came across Stoicism, which is all about a life philosophy I really like where you learn to accept the world as it is and channel your energy to focus on what you can control. I have to say though that that’s something that I haven't fully mastered myself, I still get moody when the weather is rainy and cold, but the more I practice the better I become as a result of it, so give it a try and let me know if it helps you.
