I don’t have much to say about this actual story, more so the circumstances around me reading it.

I bought this book blindly. I kept hearing people talk about this book and kept seeing pictures of it everywhere. I knew it was a romance, so when I saw a review that someone had posted about their father picking it up off of her coffee table and reading halfway through and loving it, I was sold. I read a little bit of the summary, but not much.

So imagine my surprise when I realized (after I bought it and had it on my shelf for months past the return date) what other books the author has written (Hunting/Haunting Adeline have never been on my TBR because I don’t think I could handle the triggers) and when I read the page listing the triggers.

I -very hesitantly- decided to go forth and try a few pages, see if I’m hooked enough to get through the triggering parts, see if I can handle it. And honestly, it wasn’t that bad.

I ended up really enjoying the story and found the plot to be thrilling, mysterious, and hopeful. It’s not exactly romantic, but it was an interesting read.

I still don’t think I’ll read Carlton’s other books, but this was much tamer than I was expecting, and for that, I am glad.
