β€œFor me it was almost like winter didn't count. Summer was what mattered. My whole life was measured in summers.”

At 23 years old, books like this make me feel a lot of nostalgia for my teenage years. It had the perfect summer setting, and focused a lot on growing up, and the importance of family/ found family.

There were a lot of parts in this book where we see Belly become frustrated with being treated like a child, and I understood exactly where she was coming from. I think that it made her character feel more realistic. She was a kid and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think a lot of people can relate to being young and wanting to feel included.

The foundation of the book, in my opinion, was Laurel and Susannah's friendship. They were quite different in a lot of aspects, but together they were simply amazing, and established a great example of friendship that lasts a lifetime. I love that they created a tradition of spending every summer together with their families. A tradition that is still running when we meet Belly and the rest of the characters in this book.

The flashbacks to Belly's memories of her younger years at Cousins Beach were really sweet. I loved that we got to see glimpses of what her friendship with Conrad and Jeremiah was like before they got older and things got complicated.

Speaking of, this love triangle was crazy! I really liked Jeremiah for Belly overall. Mostly because Conrad was a jerk to her most of the time, but I know Conrad was her first love, and that's not an easy thing to get over. I can't wait to see how that will evolve in the next book.

gave the book a 4/5 star rating, because I think I would have been able to relate to it more during my younger years. I still really liked it though!
