#pets | 10 promises you should give your dog 🐾

Hi! Not sure if y’all have watched the movie ‘10 promises to my dog’ before haha if you haven’t, I highly recommend you to go watch this 2008 Japanese film during this summer break, it’s old but gold!! But if you don’t want to cry, here are the 10 promises from a dog’s POV, hope y’all will promise them before you buy/adopt and WON’T break it as time passes!!

1. Listen patiently to what I have to say

- they can’t talk but they are rly good at telling you what they want, look at their body language and their different types of barking!

2. Trust me, I’m always on your side

- there’s a reason why dogs are called man’s best friend :)) everybody can betray u, except your dog, so don’t ever or even have the thought to give up on them!! 😡

3. Play with me a lot

- make sure to always spend at least 1hr a day to walk them and play with them!!

4. Don’t forget I have feelings too

- don’t ignore them when they are trying to tell u sth and don’t shout at them just cos u have a bad day!

5. Let’s never fight, someday I’ll win

- don’t scold or beat them if they do something wrong. Positive reinforcement!!!

6. If I don’t obey you, I have a good reason

- most of the time when they do sth they don’t usually do, it’s because they are scared.

Like my chihuahua, one day he sudd stopped following me, went onto the road and hid below a car after 8 years of walking the same road…thank God nth happened to him!!

- if your puppy bit your tissue paper or homework into pieces, took your socks, play with pee pads, eat things that they shouldn’t, it’s bcos u nvr puppy proof your house! Don’t blame them as it’s puppy nature to be like that, train properly and rmb to close your doors before u go out and put barriers to things your puppy shouldn’t be near to.

7. You have school/work and friends, but I only have you

- don’t be so busy with your life that u forget abt your dog. Remember that when you are having fun outside, your dog is all alone at home with nth to do. Manage your time properly!!

8. Stay my best friend, even when I’m old, I’ll live for 10-15 years

- I know it can get frustrating when your dog gets old. A 10min walk with your puppy can become a 1hr walk with your little old man. He won’t be as cute and active anymore. And there may be more problems and things you have to do - more medicine to feed, more urine to clean cos he cannot control his bladder, food have to be smaller cos he can’t chew much anymore etc etc.

Be patient and don’t give up on them, u wouldn’t want your kids to give up on u when u r old too right??

9. Let’s make every moment count

- make lots of happy memories together!!! Go swimming, dog cafes, dog park!!! 😄

10. Never forget our time together, keep this in your mind, so when my time comes, please be by my side

**I worked in a vet for 2 years. If in the end you have no choice but to euthanise your pet due to cancer or whatever reasons, please please please be with them during the process and let the LAST person they see be YOU!!! I know you can’t bear to see them go, but its the same for them as well. They are actually rly scared and nervous to die in the presence of so many strangers :((
