I took a day trip to Hiroshima when I was in Osaka. The journey via Shinkanken was only 1.5hrs. Hiroshima is famously known for being chosen as the city where the world's first ever atomic bomb was detonated.

Hiroshima is very residential compared to Osaka / Tokyo. There are lots of high rise buildings which are offices or apartments. The city is much quietier & laid back. Here are some things to do in this city!

Peace Memorial Park

The park houses a few monuments all which are dedicated to the legacy of the first ever nuclear attack & the memories of its victims. There a other monuments as well but I'll just list the more prominent ones.

A Bomb Domb

The only building left partially standing after the bomb hit. Seeing it irl really gave a small glimpse of how terrible the city would have been back thn. They even left the debris there.

Children's Peace Monument

This is a statue of a lil girl with outstretched arms with a folded paper crane. Its based on a true story, a girl called Sadako folded 1000 paper cranes in response to the Japanese legend. She died from radiation of the bomb.

Rest House

Another building survived the bombing. It was a fuel house before. The 1st floor is now a tourist souvenior shop while the rest is preserved just as the way it was.

Atomic Bomb Memorial Mound

The Atomic Bomb Memorial Mound is a large, grass-covered knoll that contains the cremated ashes of 70,000 unidentified victims of the bomb.

Miyajima Island

Miyajima Island is a small island off the coast of Hiroshima. It houses the famous Floating Tori Gate & Itsukushima Shrine. The island is also home to many deers! There is also a long shopping & food street where you can get souveniors & try some oysters! Oysters are sourced from Hiroshima so it can't get fresher than that!

Theres also an aquarium & ropeway which you can visit if you have the time! I would suggest arriving here near noon to have plently of time exploring everything.

The only way to get here is by ferry. There are 3 companies that provide the ferry services. One is by JR so you can use your pass & the other two are by private companies & a one way ride costs SGD400🥲

Hiroshima is definitely a good city to visit esp if you are deep into history! If you aren't very familiar with the war & effects I would think the peace memorial park will be really boring for you. I also had lots of fun taking pictures on the Island! Its quite difficult to get clean shots as there were many people despite it being a monday😂
