1. Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, 2022

– Well, color me surprised. I actually had a pretty good time with this lightweight musical romp.

This is a thoroughly well-directed movie, which was shocking to me. There is quite a bit of thoughtful camera placement that visually emphasises how the characters are feeling about the events that unfold around them.

Musical numbers are a surprisingly difficult thing to get right, and I thought this movie managed to pull off some pretty spectacular ones. There is a great deal of variety to the visual presentation of each musical sequence, with characters and camera moving around with some fun choreography. I could tell that these filmmakers were really trying to make this movie as good as it could be. Their effort shows and mostly pays off. As for plot, it's very narratively slight; it's full of contrivances and forced conflicts that never once felt substantial or surprising or meaningful. Because of this, I'll probably be forgetting about this movie very quickly. There's also a sequence in which a montage is shown made up of scenes from earlier in the movie, and I thought it was hilariously clumsy in how it was put together. But still, I thought this was an unabashedly sweet, charming, and pleasantly competent little musical adventure. It'll be good for the family.

2. The Greatest Showman, 2017

– This was the perfect family night movie. I loved the music although at first I thought it would be annoying. I enjoyed the scenes and the costumes and everything about this magical film. I would definitely watch it again.

3. Annie, 2014

⭐️6/10

– I was expecting a bit better of a remake here. While I don't think it is quite in line with how bad critics are saying it is, it's not amazing. The songs are similar to the original's, albeit a bit "fresher" here with a hip hop tone. The story is similar to the original, except for Stacks (Foxx) is not just a business man, he is a political candidate and the CEO of a popular cellular company, similar to Verizon. There is some product placement, and some focus on extrinsic motivations and "things", but I didn't feel it was the main focus of the film or detracted from the story too much. I thought the reincarnations of the music were pleasant for the most part, although there were moments where characters burst into song that didn't feel quite right and Cameron Diaz singing wasless than amazing. The sets and scale of the musical pieces were also not as well orchestrated or as grand as the original.

One would think that while redoing "Annie", you would have to come big, as well as different, and the big and grand is just not here. The soundtrack is very good, but the movie just feels hollow and not well thought out. The kids seemed to like it a lot, and while not legendary, definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of the original or a different kind of family movie for the holidays.

4. The Lego Movie, 2014

– The stand out feature of the Lego Movie for me would be the way the Lego Universe was created. The movie paid great attention to detail making everything appear as it would made from Lego, including the water and clouds, and the surfaces people walked on all had the circles sticking upwards a Lego piece would have. Combined with all the yellow faces, and Lego part during building, I was convinced action took place in the Lego Universe.

A combination of adult and child friendly humour should entertain all, the movie has done well to ensure audiences of all ages are catered to. The voice cast were excellent, especially Liam Neeson's split personality police officer, making the 2 personalities sound distinctive, and giving his Bad Cop the usual Liam Neeson tough guy.

The plot is about resisting an over-controlling ruler, highlighted by the name of the hero's

"resistance piece". It is well thought through, well written, and revealing at the right times. Full of surprises, The Lego Movie won't let You see what's coming. Best animated film since Wreck it Ralph!

5. Inside Out, 2015

⭐️9.5/10

– I watched the movie long time ago, and I've just rewatched it today. For kids it will be a funny movie with no meaning maybe!! But for an adult, its so true!! You lose your childhood personality you change you feel sad, i mean it literally touches my soul GREAT movie for both kids and adults.
