I’m back with another book review ya’ll !!

For the month of June my book club read “Black Girls Must Be Magic” by Jayne Allen. This is the second book in her “Black Girls Must Die Exhausted” series. The books follow the main character Tabitha Walker as she navigates the ups and downs of life as a Black Woman. The series touches on so many topics like friendships, workplace discrimination, relationships, fertility issues and so much more.

Going in I was really excited and had high expectations for this book for mutiple reasons.

1 . The first book in the series “ Black Girls Must Die Exhausted” is one of my favorite books of all time.

2.The first book was one of the books that encouraged me to start my book club “ The AVE Book Club” where we read books by black authors

3. Since the first one was amazing I just knew I would love the sequel

I actually did not end up loving “ Black Girls Must Be Magic”. I did enjoy reading it and I would say I liked it but I did not love it.

Let’s start with the things I enjoyed about the book. Just like the first book I really enjoyed the characters and the issues that this book shined a light on. One of those issues was the discrimination Black Women face in the workplace about their hair. That is one of the reasons I loved the first one so much because it shines a light on real issues black woman face!

I also really enjoyed the character development in this books. Marc’s character changes from the first book to this one was amazing. It made me look at him in a different light and start to understand him a bit more.

On to the things I didn’t like to much.I really wish the book was longer and went more into depth on certain parts of the story. It was much shorter then the first book. I feel like it should have been the same length or longer than the first book. It just seemed rushed to me in certain parts.

It lacked a lot of detail as far as the story line goes. I just needed more. I feel like the book would have been better if it had more details and thought out storylines.

Overall I did enjoy the book. I give it a ⭐️Overall rating: 8/10. I was a little disappointed but it was still a good read. I am still looking forward to the next book which is the last book in the series.

If you haven’t already go and check out my review on the first book “Black Girls Must Die Exhausted” on my profile.

Have you read this book or any book in this series? What are your thoughts?
