A couple of post back, I shared that I was away in China for a work trip. I actually managed to extend my trip by 3 days to travel around Guangzhou, the state I was at.

So, I’ve actually been to China numerous times as a student. However, my last trip was actually 6 years ago to Xiamen from Kinmen Island.

And through the 6 years China has developed quite abit in their tech and media. With apps like XHS, Douyin and etc on arise both in-land and internationally.

Hence, I decided to try out one of the salon that was highly raved on XHS for their perm in Foshan, Guangzhou

Ps. For those who might not know, China have many provinces. Guangzhou is the capital of the Guangdong province and Foshan is a city in Guangzhou. ( Yes, it’s that confusing when the country is huge )

I actually booked an appointment with the hairstylist via WeChat before I went to China. We arranged for Tuesday at the earliest time slot as I wanted to spend the rest of the day with my friend/colleague who was on this trip with me.

On the day of the appointment, I was actually an hour late but thankfully the hairstylist was ok with it since he had a meeting that was running late too. I took a seat while his assistant helped to take my bag and put it in a locker which I think is something uncommon in Singapore’s salon? The assistant actually came back with the locker key for my safekeeping.

The hairstylist took a look at my hair and asked what kind of perm I was looking at and since it was my first time doing perm in a salon overseas I wanted the hairstylist recommendation. He recommended a perm to me and also shared with me about this app (something like Groupon) where I could purchase a voucher to do perm at an affordable price.

He also shared with me his observation about my hair which amazed me as it was pretty spot on. His assistant then came over to bring me for a hair wash before the hair stylist came back to give me a trim on my ends. After which, he started the perm process. He was pretty attentive while attending to me despite having other clients who were coming in for their appointment.

Also, my friend actually came back later on to wait for me and he actually allowed her to sit next to me despite the crowd in the salon 🥹 most salon would have probably ask her to head elsewhere for a walk first since they needed the seat.

So 3.5 hours into the perm, his assistant came back to do a final hair wash for me with treatment.

The hairstylist then came back to dry my hair, so while drying he actually wanted to show me the possibilities of how the curl would turn out naturally dried and blown dry by a hairdryer. (Photo 4/5) which I think was good so I know what to expect as well at home. Also, he took lots of videos and photos of my hair and send me on WeChat after, though haha he filtered my face quite abit hence the sticker on my face.

Something I forgot to add would be that he actually asked about my daily hair styling habits so that he could suit to my needs which I felt was essential as if I’m someone who want something quick and easy, it wouldn’t be smart to give me a perm that requires me to do a lot to keep up.

Lastly, something that everyone would probably love to know! I actually spent a total of 598RMB (SGD 120?) by using the voucher 🤭 something we probably can’t find in Singapore.

So what do you guys think? Was it worth the perm?

Ps. For those who are keen to know which salon it is. I have listed it down here. Visit them if you happen to be in the area in China.
