Renovation decisions to reduce kitchen chores 🧹🧼🧽

Household chores are tiring especially if we have a full-time hectic job! Some people may enjoy doing house chores, some may not. Personally, I am fine with doing house chores but it would also be a huge plus point if the home is configured in a way to reduce and minimise tiring chores = more time to rest and do other things!

Here are 8 renovation decisions to help reduce kitchen chores:

1️⃣ 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 & 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬

No open shelving also means less dust collection. By keeping everything in the cabinets and reducing items on the countertop and shelves, there is not much dusting required in the kitchen. Hence, instead of dusting the shelves every other day or once a week, we only wipe down the cabinets every few weeks.

2️⃣ 𝐎𝐩𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐫

Induction cooker is much easier to clean as compared to gas stoves. Gas stoves has a lot of crevices and you need to dismantle the individual parts for cleaning and re-assemble them again.

3️⃣ 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐤

Easier to wipe crumbs directly into the sink with no lip to trap debris. An under-mount sink also looks seamless with the countertop.

4️⃣ 𝐎𝐧𝐞-𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡

Consider a backsplash without many intricate designs or seams for easier cleaning.

Alternatively, choose large-format tiles to minimize grout lines, reducing areas for dirt and grime to accumulate.

We are using Kompacplus for both backsplash and countertop and it has been the easiest to maintain. We only have to wipe with kitchen cleaner and a cloth each time. No stains or burns issue faced.

5️⃣ 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐲-𝐭𝐨-𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬

Opt for materials like quartz or matte and smooth laminate instead of textured ones, as they are easy to wipe clean.

Textured ones might trap more dust and grime as time goes by if no proper cleaning is done on a regular basis.

6️⃣ 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐚𝐩

Convenient to deep clean your sink as an extendable tap is able to reach all corners of the sink.

7️⃣ 𝐍𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬

Select cabinets with flat surfaces and minimal detailing to simplify cleaning.

8️⃣ 𝐒𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬

Keep clutter at bay with ample storage to prevent surfaces from collecting unnecessary items.

A well-designed layout that minimizes clutter can also contribute significantly to a kitchen's cleanliness
