DISCLAIMER: points and factors mentioned below are all based on personal experiences and personal opinions. Not all points will be applicable to everyone or every role/ industry that you are working in.
I am 27 and have been working for 5 years, and these are some career advices that I would give to my younger self when I first started working ๐๐ป

Whether you are seeking a new role or not, or even if you are very comfortable in your current role, always keep a lookout and keep your options open.
Firstly, you owe it to yourself to improve your job finding skills. It should be a constant practice and work in progress to sharpen your interview skills in the event when you really need to use them. Even if you are very comfortable and have no intention to leave, you never know what may happen in the next 1-3 years. Perhaps situation in your team or company changes and you need to find another job, and when this happens, you do not want to be scrambling to worry and panic about interviews because you havenโt done it for so long.
You may think that it might be wasting other peopleโs time if youโre not 100% interested in the role, but you would never know because it could be a blessing in disguise and you may find that the next role is actually perhaps what youโd prefer and where you can grow further.
Next, it will help you keep yourself up to date with the market. Even when youโre in a happy and good place, you never know when that may change and keeping a lookout on market available roles helps you identify which are the skills you may be lacking and need to learn. It also helps you understand the how much the market is willing to pay for your role or the role that you are keen in. It could help you make your case as to why you should get a raise when it comes to yearly review.

It is important to keep a tangible record of your achievements and impact you have had on your team. When it comes to seeking promotions or new opportunities, this is where it comes in handy and you can use them to demonstrate your track record and your ability to work effectively.
Positive reviews from co-workers also serve as valuable references when networking or seeking new job opportunities in the future.
As part of personal growth and motivation, reading positive feedback can also provide a sense of personal fulfilment and growth.

One of the few mistakes I did when I hosted first few meetings during the initial part of my career was just to dive straight into the main points to be discussed.
This was not a good and effective way to kickstart a meeting because not all the stakeholders would be aware of the issue and it is good to start off the meeting by providing a context for the purpose of the meeting and setting a brief agenda.
Also, setting a goal for that meeting on why is the group convening and what is the group trying to accomplish at the end of the meeting will make you look like you have done your homework and know what is going on (even though honestly sometimes you may not have 100% fully grasp the issue).

This point may not resonate with everyone, it really depends on individual choices and preferences. Some people may think that having side hustles are overrated and having a full time corporate job is good enough. If youโre happy then of course, happy for you.
The whole point of mentioning this is to protect yourself and allow yourself to have financial buffer.
However you want to do it, be it starting a small business, tuition services, freelance work, content creation etc, having an alternative income stream is going to give you a lot of flexibility and options in life. E.g. if you find yourself in a toxic workplace situation, you will have more room to leave if youโre not desperate for income.
Also start contributing to โFU fundโ, which is different from emergency funds (in my own definition). This fund allows you to quit your job immediately in the event where you are experiencing some life event that is causing you mental trauma. Anything that is causing you mental trauma would require you money to get out of it. E.g. you need to take care of elderly parents in the event that they suddenly fall sick, or you wanted to take a short term break to recalibrate yourself, a FU fund allows you to just quit without worrying about money issues for the short term.

Speaking of money, always ask for more money than you actually want when you are negotiating. Companies would expect you to negotiate and they are probably not going to give you the highest number you ask for.
The middle number should be something that you are happy to receive. For example, if you are happy with a 50k salary per annum, ask for 53-55k. More often than not, companies are going to negotiate downwards and the best case scenario would be that they give you what you ask for. If they negotiate down, at least you would have a 3-5k buffer and perhaps meet at the middle ground of 50k (which is what you are happy with).
In addition, if your financial needs change or unexpected expenses arise, having higher salary can provide a financial buffer.
Of course, donโt ask for unrealistic or overly ambitious salary which could potentially jeopardise the negotiation. Always do your market research on salary band for a certain role and rank before putting a number to it.
