Week 1 & 2 of HOME RENO 🔧 | what to EXPECT

Your contractor or ID should have applied for HDB permit the moment you received your keys (once the name has been transferred to you officially under HDB database). This helps to save a few days as it takes around 1 week for approval.

Here’s a list of things that should have been completed in the first two weeks of renovation if your contractor or ID is efficient 😌

Note that this is RESALE EDITION guide.

✔️Protection laid all around the flat

This is to protect any existing cabinetry or tiles that you wish to maintain and remember to check that all the items you want to maintain in the flat has been covered properly.

✔️Bathroom fittings

Your contractor can start to remove all the existing bathroom fittings while waiting for delivery of bathroom items, and in preparation of tiling works (if any)

✔️Electrical works

Sockets, switches and lightings can also be removed while waiting for delivery of these items. Discussion with electrician on placement/ addition/ removal of electrical points will also take place during this stage.

✔️Hacking

Once permit for demolition is approved, your contractor can start hacking works immediately. Hacking should take place before any other major works are done. For us, we hacked our kitchen wall to create semi open kitchen concept 😃

Remember to ensure that all the walls and damaged tiles are plastered and make food properly.

✔️Tiling works

Your tiles should have been delivered during this period (if you have been diligently shopping for your tiles and choosing your colours prior). Once tiles are delivered, your contractor can start the tiling works. For us, we only had tiling works for both bathrooms.

Our contractor was well-prepared and had all the necessary preparations done prior to commencement of renovation works, which we are very grateful for.
