I grew up without money, in a family that simply wished they had money. Jokes about winning the lottery, unemployment through the economic recession of 2008, pinching pennies and counting down to paychecks.

I carried this lifestyle into my early adulthood. Working minimum wage jobs and wishing I made more money. Just wishing.

The fact of the matter is (and a lot of people won’t like to hear this, include myself in recent years) - wishing won’t get you anywhere.

You CAN break generational curses. You just weren’t taught how to.

You have to want a different life. For me - I couldn’t bear the thought of someday bringing kids into a household that couldn’t even fend for themselves. I couldn’t handle the idea of growing into my adulthood and never seeing the world, just working a job I hate for a boss I hate to pay bills I hate and not be able to afford the things I love. That’s how I started wanting it.

Didn’t like going after it. Going after it sucked. But through all the hours, all the breakdowns, all of the times I wanted to give up, I noticed a trend. An upward trend. I said yes to learning. I said yes to the extra shift. I noticed people who were better off than me. I was jealous, but I couldn’t hate them for the things they had that I WISHED I had. I considered maybe they know something I don’t. And they did. Eventually, saying yes to learning new things and yes to overfilling my plate turned into saying yes to promotions. Yes to new job offers.

Money isn’t everything. Many people are satisfied not constantly chasing for promotions and higher paychecks to fill their wants and needs. Financial freedom is a constant endeavor of mine, but it doesn’t have to be anyone else’s.

However, if you’re like me, and you feel stuck. Alone. Clueless. Helpless. But you WANT something better - I promise, it is possible. You will break the generational curse of financial hardship you’ve been put through. It might not be immediate. It probably won’t be over night. The struggle doesn’t STOP with money, either, but it feels good to feel a closer end to financial burden.

If you’re working a job you hate to make a means, I’ve been there. For me, it was the start of an amazing 3 years I’ve spent nearly doubling my income since then. Take in your surroundings. Notice areas you like, chase after those. Find a passion, learn the ins and outs. Be a yes man.

I have so much more to say on this topic. I know I sound stoic. I empathize with the struggle. I’ve sobbed and swore I’d quit. It takes time, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. You GOT THIS. Hang in there. Beat the curse. Do it for you.
