Now that A levels is approaching, here are some study methods I found effective for me when I was a JC2 student:

(for reference my rank points was in the 80s range!)

My subject combi was:

H2 Literature, Economics, Math, H1 History

📚Understand the content

It’s very easy to say “read the notes. Memorise the content”, and while that may be applicable for subjects such as history, it may be harder for subjects that require you to apply your knowledge such as literature and economics. For me, I would jot down certain chapters I would go through on different days, and then really stare at the pages and try my best to understand it. If I really don’t get it, I would book a consult with my teacher to clarify my doubts! I reached a point where I was seeing them at least once a week, but I guess it was really helpful…

📚Keep doing past year papers!

Doing past year papers can really help give you a sense of how the questions will be like during the actual examination! For GP and literature, I tried to attempt various questions and write my arguments in point form and then gave it to my teacher for marking. I did 1 paper a week and then self-marked. If there were questions I didn’t understand why I got wrong for  consult…

📚Making notes and mindmaps

For literature, I separated my notes and quotes into the different themes

For GP, I had elaboration quotes and case study/statistics/facts notes for the different topics

For economics, I did mindmaps for the different topics because it was easier to draw links between the different graphs and policies 😊

I guess something that really worked for me was the frequent consultations I had with my teachers. There were many times I didn’t know why I went wrong for certain questions or just couldn’t understand certain content and going for consults really gave me a better understanding and helped me to figure out things well. The teachers were also more than willing to help! So if you are struggling with school work, don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers because they are always around to help (if not, you can reach out to another class teacher if you prefer their way of teaching)

Studying for A levels was really painful but I got over it, so you can too! If you have any questions regarding anything related to A levels or uni feel free to leave a comment below 😊
