Sometimes, our minds play tricks on us, and we start creating little stories in our heads that feel so real but might not be grounded in reality. Whether it’s convincing ourselves someone is more into us than they are, thinking we’re bound to fail before we even try, or feeling like the world is against us, it’s easy to fall into the trap of delusion without even realizing it. 💭✨ But don’t worry—I’ve been there, too! Here’s how to tell if you might be a little delusional about something and what to do about it.

1. Check the Evidence

Okay, first things first: ask yourself if there is actual, solid evidence backing up your belief. Are you going off assumptions or have you gathered real proof? For example, if you’re convinced someone is mad at you but you’ve had zero signs or conversations confirming that, you might be feeding into a delusion. 🧐 Sometimes, we let our emotions take over, and that’s totally okay, but it’s good to pause and evaluate: what’s real, and what’s just in your head?

2. Ask for Outside Perspective

Talk to someone you trust. 💕 Sometimes when we’re stuck in our own heads, we need a reality check from a friend or family member. They can offer a different perspective, and more often than not, they’ll help you see things more clearly. But be careful with this step—it’s important to seek advice from people who are supportive and open-minded, like your besties who value gender equality and support the LGBTQIA+ community! 🏳️‍🌈 It’s all about surrounding yourself with people who get you and have your back.

3. Watch for Patterns

Are you constantly feeling this way? If you often find yourself convinced of things that aren’t quite true (like that everyone’s talking about you behind your back or that someone you’re crushing on secretly loves you), this could be a sign that your brain is leaning into delusion mode. 🤯 It’s normal to have moments of doubt or to daydream a bit, but if these feelings start to take over your reality, it’s time to dig a little deeper into what’s going on emotionally.

4. Feel Your Feelings—But Don’t Let Them Lead

Our emotions are super powerful, and they should be honored. However, they don’t always tell the full story. 🌈 If you feel hurt, anxious, or excited, it’s important to feel those things fully. But don’t let them convince you that something is true just because your feelings are strong. Take a step back and breathe. What’s your gut really telling you, and is there a chance that your mind is running wild with the “what ifs”?

5. Ground Yourself in the Present

When our thoughts run away from us, it helps to come back to the present. Take a moment to breathe deeply, focus on what’s happening right now, and remind yourself that the future isn’t written yet. Your thoughts don’t define you, and they don’t predict the future either. 🌸 Try journaling, meditating, or even taking a walk. These little actions help bring you back to reality when you’re feeling overwhelmed by delusional thoughts.

6. Reflect on Your Self-Worth

Sometimes, delusions stem from insecurity. Maybe you’re convincing yourself that someone dislikes you because deep down, you’re struggling with your own self-worth. Or maybe you’re over-inflating a situation because you’re afraid of failure. Either way, take a step back and reflect on your inner confidence. 💖 Know that you are enough exactly as you are, and that your value isn’t defined by anyone else’s opinions or perceptions.

7. It’s Okay to Be Wrong

Last but not least: it’s okay to admit that you’ve been a little delusional! We all do it, and there’s no shame in recognizing it and learning from it. ✨ The important part is that you’re growing and becoming more in touch with reality, and that takes courage.

I post daily on all my accounts and am always looking to grow a close, supportive community! 💕 Let’s continue lifting each other up, supporting equality, and spreading love. 🏳️‍🌈🫶🏻
