Tteokbokki

Makes enough for 2 servings

Ingredients:

1 clove garlic

200g korean rice cake

300ml water

1 tsp gochujang

1 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tsp sugar or gavia

Sprinkle sesame seeds and spring onion

Instructions:

In a saucepan, add in water, chopped garlic, korean rice cake, gochujang, oyster sauce, and sugar. Bring it up to a boil.

Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until the sauce is thickened up. You may season accordingly to your liking if it is not enough.

Sprinkle some sesame seeds and spring onion when serving.

Tteokbokki is a popular Korean street food and snack made with chewy rice cakes, gochujang (Korean chili paste), and various other ingredients like fish cakes, vegetables, and sometimes hard-boiled eggs. It got to be one of my favourite street food and I must have it whenever I'm in South Korea, especially on a cold winter day. Tteokbokki has a unique texture and spicy flavor that many people find addictively delicious. It is a beloved dish in Korea and has gained popularity in other parts of the world as well. There have been many variations of tteokbokki, and you can twist things up by adding ingredients like cheese, seafood or even hot dog into the dish.
