When life feels heavy, remember: even the stars need the darkness to shine. You are not your scars, but the light that escapes through them. Take your pain, hold it gently, and let it teach you. You are still growing, still becoming, and that is beautiful. Trust the quiet momentsāthey are where your soul finds its strength. š
Have you ever felt like the past still lives in you, like an echo that refuses to fade? Songs for the Only Son was born from this question. It explores the silence of grief, the weight of what we inherit, and the pieces of ourselves that have been buried along the way.
In the poem āMy Father Murdered My Father,ā I confront the legacy of silence. Itās about more than just familyāitās about the ghosts of history, the shadows of colonialism and imperialism that linger in our blood. These legacies took away names, erased languages, and burned identities. They told us to forget, to call them āFather,ā to bury our past and pretend it never existed. But what happens when the past refuses to stay buried?
"My father murdered my father.
He buried his body in the backyard.
My Father killed my father
And told us to call
Him Father."
This poem asks the hard question: What are we now? If our history has been erased, what have we become? Not children, but slaves to a story we didnāt write. The poem is raw, real, and personalāand yet it speaks to all of us whoāve ever been asked to forget where we came from.
A Journey Through Grief and Healing
Songs for the Only Son isnāt just my storyāitās our story. Itās about confronting the silence we carry, the loss that echoes through generations. Itās about the beauty of breaking through that silence and reclaiming our voices. šæ
Growing up in Monterey, surrounded by the ocean and the Salinas Valley, I found solace in the landscapes, but even those places hold memories of loss. These poems reflect the beauty and harshness of those places, and the journey to find peace in a world shaped by shadows.
Why Scrapbooking?
When words werenāt enough to process the grief, I turned to my hands. Scrapbooking became a way to physically piece things back together. Each page is a small victory, a testament to survival. Itās a reminder that we can take the fragments of what weāve lost and turn them into something beautiful. šø
The ASMR videos I share are more than just craftsātheyāre moments of healing, reflection, and calm. Theyāre my way of inviting you into a quiet space where we can create together. Iāll be back tomorrow with more ASMR videos, and Iād love for you to join me. Letās spend an evening together, crafting, reflecting, and finding peace. āØ
