How did I afford my FIRST ROLEX at 19?!
For context I am turning 21 years old this year, waiting for enlistment. I am really proud of my achievements because I dont come from a wealthy family. I hope the following advice would be beneficial to all of you.
How did i start?
I had my first part time job at the age of 13 years old working at Macdonalds then I moved on to banquet waiter & into sales till the age of 16.
As I have mention that i didn't come from a wealthy family, I had to learnt to work for what I wanted through part time jobs & saving. This have inculcate the habit in me as I grew older.
These are some things I have learnt from 16 till now
1) Increase your earning power
The only way to afford more luxury items & lifestyle would be increasing your income. Start by taking up more side hustles or even potentially starting your own business.
2) Learn a High Income Skill
Such as being able to sell. Learn how to influence & persuade others. Sounds easy but it might be harder than it seems
Provide a service or sell a product valuable to others
3)Invest in yourself
Invest in yourself such as your health, fitness & try to take up courses to be more knowledgeable in a field that interests you. All in all become someone who is able to provide more value to others
In my honest opinion, investing with small amount of money wouldn’t change your LIFE in the short term. Only start investing once you have achieved Point 1.
4) Say NO to LIFESTYLE INFLATION
Earn more = spend more? Definitely rewarding yourself for being capable to earn more is something we all do. Because what’s the point of a higher income that doesn't improve your quality of life right?
BUT that’s where LIFESTYLE inflation happens. With a higher earning power, you tend to spend more money on non-essential, on luxurious items or eating at a more fancy restaurant more often. In the long run, it becomes a cycle and can be detrimental to your financial health
This is not financial advice but my personal perspective !
Hope to connect with you guys in my DMs 📩
