Delivering at KKH 🏥 My birth story 🤰🏻

Hello! I gave birth to my baby at KK hospital about 4 months back. Here’s my birth story (natural w/o epidural) and sharing the total cost at KKH 😊

Consultations: $2028.16 after subsidies

Delivery & Ward: $3686.86 after subsidies* (not subsidies but refund!!)

Total cost: $5715.02

I’ve been going for subsidised consultations - seeing a different doctor for each consult. I am okay with it as I don’t have any health condition that I got to be more aware/careful of. At each visit, doctor will tell you that “Baby’s growing well, size/weight is normal, have any questions?” I don’t have any questions to ask because I don’t know what to ask? (I’m a FTM haha) And all is good if baby is good 😇

I was at week 38+6, thought it was going to be my usual routine check. Who knows I was already 3cm dilated! We decided to go ahead with the admission for induced labour and to get our A1 ward secured.

• For KK, we can’t reserve A1 ward as it’s subjected to availability. Same for Private patient, A1 ward is not guaranteed/ can’t be reserved.

I was brought into the delivery suite while husband is handling the payment 💸 Here’s my record while waiting to meet baby 🗒️

16:00+ admission to delivery suite ward 26

16:40-16:45 pop water bag

16:50 administer contraction (6)

17:30 increase dosage for contractions dose (12)

17:50 & another dosage (24)

19:07 last one (36)

19:20 4cm dilated

At 19:20 I got a little gastric pain because I had lunch around 1:30pm, feeling a tiny bit hungry. Felt nauseous and I wanted to eat but nurses said I can’t consume any food (IDK why?) Anyway I managed to pull through. Contractions were still manageable at this point.

Around 21:00 contractions became intense. I was contemplating if I should get epidural, but I look at the time and thought, already wait for so long already, just wait a while more! And started to use the laughing gas. My husband helped me with it while holding my hand 🥲

• ADVICE: Teach/ask your husband to track your contractions! He can help you with the laughing gas while you battle the contractions.

Then at 22:30, I could feel baby went down lower. I got the pooping feel 💩 So I hurried my husband to call in nurse to inform. 1st check, nurse said not yet. So I gotta wait. But with each contraction, I got the feeling to push.. At around 22:55 doctor came and said it’s about time, BUT NOT YET so she went away to look at other patients first. Oh wells just about 5 or 10mins later, I really feel like pooping and told the nurse to check, and yep! Baby is coming. Nurse told me to “not push” - it’s uncontrollable!!

•If you feel like you wanna poop, it means the baby is coming out.

Very relieved that doctor came straight away and helped with the delivery. With just a few pushes, baby came out at 23:07 🥰

A1 ward was OK, 1 or 2 nurses weren’t that friendly but otherwise all are nice. Food tastes good and there is a wide selection. Would go back to KK if I have a 2nd one 😆
