Mistakes to avoid in Florence, Italy

Popular places like Uffizi and Accademia Gallery sell advance tickets that are timed to allow you to skip the lines, saving you precious time! Standing in the general line day-of can take almost all day in peak season 😬but advance tickets do sell out quickly, so this is something you’ll want to book online well before entering the country. If you didn’t manage to snag an advance ticket but also don’t want to wait all day in line, check for paid tours which include entry tickets. They’ll be more expensive, but it may end up being your only option!

🥘Only eating at social media famous places

🚖Relying on taxis to get around

Florence is such a walkable city! I believe it’s best explored on foot, but if that is not how you prefer to explore, just be aware that taxis can be hard to come by in the city. You have to call in to order one, and often you will be asked to call back later due to no availability or be quoted a long wait time. Don’t rely on taxis if you need to get somewhere at a specific time!

🎫Not validating your ticket on transportation

If you use public transportation while in Florence, you’ll need to time stamp your ticket before boarding to avoid a hefty fee! You’ll see small machines at the station where you can insert your ticket for them to be stamped before boarding.

🗣️Approaching everyone in English

No, you don’t have to know Italian to visit Florence as English is widely spoken, however it’s polite to attempt to approach people in Italian and ask to switch to English. I found people to be much more welcoming while doing so.
