Let’s learn more about the gut 👇🏼

1. Constantly eating, grazing & snacking all day long means that the MMC (migrating motor complex) doesn't have the opportunity to operate and clear the intestines which may result in imbalance of the gut flora and potentially inflammation.

The MMC's job is to "clean up house" between meals using broom like motions to "sweep" the intestines to push digestive debris down the digestive tract.

Eating enough food and balanced meals at consistent times is more supportive of the gut (than snacking all day long) so the MMC has time to do its job.

2. If you continue to live your life in flight or fight (the sympathetic nervous system) state it will be really hard for your gut to heal.

Living in a stressed body will prolong healing time because the gut and brain are connected via the gut-brain axis.

It’s essential to lower your stress load.

3. Food/diet is not the only thing that impacts the gut - other things that affect the state of gut health are: Hormonal Birth control, NSAIDS, chemicals and additives in food products, overuse of antibiotics, dehydration, excessive alcohol consumption, environmental toxins. No "one" thing causes the gut to become damaged. it is a combination of many things over time.

4. The skin is a great indicator of what may be going on inside the gut.

The skin is the body's largest organ; it is one of the major systems by which the body gets rid of toxins and waste and is our first line of defense against harmful bacteria and pathogens. The gut microbiome plays an important role in a wide variety of skin conditions!

Taking steps to restore the gut can also improve skin issues.

5. If you want to heal your gut it's also important to address the state of your digestive health. Many people have gut issues because there is a lack of healthy digestion in place.

It's important to address digestion from the brain to the bowels and everything in between (the large intestine is essentially where the "gut" resides and is the final stage of digestion).

If you don't address necessary steps earlier on in the digestive process (before the gut) you may see reoccurrence of the same gut issues.

6. Some people need more intense protocols for their guts than others depending on potential bacterial overgrowth, dysbiosis, leaky gut etc.

Not everyone will need to take the "exact" same steps to heal their gut.

Everyone has different needs.

I strongly recommend working 1:1 with a practitioner to address your specific gut issues if they aren't getting better (DM if interested for 1:1 coaching).

7. The time it will take for your gut to heal is totally

individualized based on the current state of your gut. The intestinal cells are very quick to respond and heal when the enviornemnt is supportive. That's why it’s important to take gut restoration practices seriously such as stress management, sleep, quality of food etc.

However if someone has suffered for years with a chronic

inflammatory condition the wellnesswithchels healing time will be much longer than one who just started to have issues.
