Sharing my itinerary for my family trip to Taiwan in April/May. I thought the weather would be slightly cooler when I was there but it was really hot in the day (almost comparable to the heat in Bangkok). If you are going around this period, do remember to pack your sunscreen, umbrella and sunnies ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

Trip Breakdown:

๐Ÿ™ Taipei - 3 days

โ›ด๏ธ Kaohsiung - 1.5 days

๐ŸŒป Taichung - 1.5 days

๐Ÿ›ต Getting Around ๐Ÿ›ต

Taipei and Kaohsiung is very well connected with their own metro systems however, Taichung does not have a metro system so taxi is your best option for getting around. We were travelling in a group of four so we mainly travelled around via taxi. You can download the local taxi app 55688 if you bought a local SIM card at the airport (it requires a local number). Otherwise Uber is also readily available in all 3 cities.

I engaged Flygo Tour (้ฃ›็‹—ๆ—…้Š) for full day car hires where we will be visiting multiple attractions that are not near to each other (Day 3 and Day 6). The drivers from Flygo Tour were amazing and recommended us various spots to visit and also provided lots of informative history insights to the attractions during the trip. However they got my itinerary wrong initially so be sure to check and confirm your itinerary prior to your travel.

For long distance single trip rides that does not require a full day hire (Day 2), I actually booked my driver via Tripool. You can download their app to proceed with the booking. They will inform you of the driver details one day before the trip.

Taipei ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿจ Tango Inn Zhongshan - Room is small but the hotel is very clean and comfortable and located within walking distance from the Zhongshan shopping areas.

DAY 1๏ธโƒฃ

โœˆ๏ธ Red-eye flight to Taipei

๐Ÿ“ Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall

๐Ÿ“ Taipei 101 - Photo was taken near Taipei City Hall Metro station

๐Ÿ“ Beitou Thermal Valley

๐Ÿ“ Tamsui Old Street

You can also take a ferry from Tamsui Ferry Pier Wharf B to Tamsui Fishermanโ€™s Wharf to enjoy the sunset. We were too tired so we skipped it.

๐Ÿ” Comida Toast

๐Ÿ” Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice - Located near the Memorial Hall

DAY 2๏ธโƒฃ

We took a day trip to Wulai on the second day. Wulai is generally quite explorable by foot and all the attractions are within walking distance. You will just need transport to bring you there and back from Taipei. We booked our transport via Tripool. The ride cost about $51 each way.

๐Ÿ“ Wulai Suspension Bridge

๐Ÿ“ Wulai Falls - Take the Wulai Log cart to get to the falls!

๐Ÿ“ Yun Hsien Cable Car

You can also make your way further up to Yun Hsien Lake after alighting from the cable car. I saw many beautiful pictures online of the lake but it requires quite a bit of hike to get there hence we gave it a pass.

๐Ÿ” Wu Lao Guo Hotpot

DAY 3๏ธโƒฃ

Total transport cost was NTD4,700 for 10 hours car plus driver.

๐Ÿ“ Yehliu Geopark

๐Ÿ“ Zhengbin Fishing Harbour

๐Ÿ“ Jiufen

๐Ÿ“ Shifen Waterfall - Was closed by the time we reached โ˜น๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ Raohe Night Market - ๐Ÿ” Must try Yu Pin Yuan Iced and Hot Tang Yuan!

We wanted to do the Shen Ao Rail Bike Trail but was not aware that we had to reserve tickets online in advance. Our driver informed us as soon as he received our job but the tickets were already sold out so do note to book your tickets in advance.

I will recommend going to Shifen first before Jiufen as the waterfalls were closed by the time we reached.

Kaohsiung โ›ด๏ธ

๐Ÿš† High Speed Rail to Kaohsiung ๐Ÿš†

We took the HSR from Taipei to Kaohsiung. The tickets were purchased in advance via Klook. Once you have purchased the โ€˜vouchersโ€™ on Klook, you will need to go to the Taiwan HSR website and use your redemption code to book the train timing and your seat. You will still be able to change the time of your booked ride online if you need to. Subsequently just go to any HSR station to exchange for the physical ticket.

๐Ÿจ Harbour 10 Hotel - Highly recommend! The hotel was awesome and only cost SGD40 per person per night! The room was really spacious and very clean. Breakfast was so-so, will not recommend for you to top up for it. One downside is that it is not very near a metro station.

DAY 4๏ธโƒฃ

After arriving in Kaohsiung we took a ferry from Gushan Ferry Pier to Cijin Island. The ferry cost NTD30 single way. If you do not have an Easycard, be sure to keep small change around as they do not provide spare change for the ferry ticket if you pay in cash.

๐Ÿ“ Rainbow Church

๐Ÿ“ Cijin Shell Museum

๐Ÿ“ Cijin Star Tunnel

๐Ÿน Estrella del Mar - Beach club at Cijin island with nice chill vibes

You can rent an electric bicycle to get around Cijin Island to visit the attractions. The bicycle rental shop usually provides a map for you to follow. Do not be pressured to get a bicycle immediately when you arrive as the prices at the shops near the ferry station are slightly higher. There are also many shops further in nearer to the beach. We rented our bicycle for NTD600 for 2 hours. It started pouring midway while we were there hence we were not able to visit all of the attractions โ˜น๏ธ

DAY 5๏ธโƒฃ

We wanted to visit the Tiger and Dragon Pagoda but it was under renovations so we went shopping instead.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Dream Mall

๐Ÿš† High Speed Rail to Taichung ๐Ÿš†

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Lalaport Taichung

Taichung ๐ŸŒป

๐Ÿจ Hotel Z Taichung - The hotel was pleasant however we booked the premium quadruple room which consists of two rooms connected by an open balcony. It looked nice in pictures but in reality, the second smaller room was really small with zero walking space and felt dusty. The main room was clean and pleasant though hence, will definitely recommend to book two double rooms instead. Hotelโ€™s location is very near Fengchia Night Market.

DAY 6๏ธโƒฃ

Total transport cost was NTD5,000 for 10 hours car plus driver.

๐Ÿ“ Zhong She Flower Market

๐Ÿ“ Miyahara - The ice cream is a must try!

๐Ÿ“ Rainbow Village

๐Ÿ“ Lugang Old Street

This was recommended by our driver as we had some time to spare before sunset at Gao Mei. We chanced upon this DIY clay making shop ้นฟๆธฏๅ‰ตๆ„ๆ้บตไบบ. For a price of NTD200 - 250 you will be able to make a small clay figurine of your favourite cartoon character. It took about 30 - 40 minutes to complete the figurine and the staff will guide you through step by step. Highly recommend this fun activity especially if you have kids!

๐Ÿ“ Gao Mei Wetlands

๐Ÿ“ Feng Chia Night Market

๐Ÿ” ้บต็ฒ‰้‡่ฆ‹ๆฐด - Super yummy thick noodles in garlic peanuty minced meat sauce!

๐Ÿฐ JT Patisserie - Aesthetic cafe with good desserts opposite our hotel

DAY 7๏ธโƒฃ

๐Ÿš† High Speed Rail to Taipei ๐Ÿš†

โœˆ๏ธ Flight back home
