How to make Taiwanese Pearl Milk Tea?
Ingredients:
• For the Tapioca Pearls:
• 1 cup tapioca pearls
• 4 cups water
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• For the Tea:
• 2 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf black tea)
• 2 cups boiling water
• 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
• 1 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
• Optional:
• Ice cubes
• Additional sugar syrup
Instructions:
1. Cook the Tapioca Pearls:
• Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot.
• Add the tapioca pearls to the boiling water and stir gently.
• Cook the pearls until they float to the surface (about 5-10 minutes), then reduce the heat to medium and cover the pot.
• Continue to cook for an additional 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
• Turn off the heat and let the pearls sit, covered, for another 15 minutes.
• Drain the pearls and rinse with cold water. Mix with the brown sugar to coat and add sweetness. Set aside.
2. Brew the Tea:
• Steep the black tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water for 5-7 minutes.
• Remove the tea bags and stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
• Allow the tea to cool to room temperature. For quicker cooling, place the tea in the refrigerator.
3. Assemble the Milk Tea:
• Divide the cooked tapioca pearls into 2 tall glasses.
• Add ice cubes if desired.
• Pour the cooled tea over the tapioca pearls.
• Add 1/2 cup of milk to each glass and stir gently to combine.
• If additional sweetness is desired, add more sugar syrup to taste.
4. Serve:
• Serve immediately with wide straws to enjoy the pearls.
