💥Disclaimer: This is our (very) honest review of FiftyFreed and what we experienced while getting our nails done with them. As mentioned, we were aware of the mixed reviews but decided to try our luck anyway. But as luck would have it, our experience was less than satisfactory. No hard feelings towards FiftyFreed or any of their staff, but we won’t be going back anytime soon.💥

Looking for a nail salon to frequent can sometimes be a difficult task. Finding a place that’s affordable, has a great selection of nail colours, and a service staff who are patient and meticulous seems to be an impossible combination. I’ve been in pursuit for such a place for a while now and I’m always asking around for recommendations from likeminded mani-pedi enthusiasts. FiftyFreed was a place that was mentioned more than once and despite the mixed reviews that came with it, I decided to try my luck and booked an appointment with them. Making a booking was a pretty straightforward process with the typical ‘WhatsApp or DM us on Instagram’ hoohah. They were prompt with their replies and even replied waaay after working hours, which I appreciated. I booked the 1:30pm slot for two people and decided to go for their promo deal which was a classic mani-pedi combo for $68 (one colour). The outlet we booked for was the one at Cuppage Plaza. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the lady at the desk who asked if we had an appointment with them. Standard procedure, right? We were escorted to our seats where we then asked to pick our colour. After all the usual shenanigans, they proceeded to get started on our nails. The lady who did my nails was kind and attentive, but the woman who did A’s nails seemed a little distracted. On more than one occasion did I notice her painting A’s nails and would leave it half done to go answer a text message. And although I get that it’s completely normal and I don’t have anything against that happening, it gets to be a bit annoying when it happens every 5-8 minutes. After our manicures were done, they moved us to the pedicure station where A’s manicurist nicked her while cutting her cuticles. Shortly after that, she went back to using her phone. My manicurist on the other hand, trimmed my nails but didn’t shape it properly. Fast forward to the payment process, I was told that after deducting the deposit that I had paid the day before (it’s $20, FYI) my total bill came up to $79 with removal of gel polish that costs $30 for hands and feet. Which means I paid $99 for a mani-pedi. No designs. One colour. Cuticles cleaned but with cuts in the process. It’s all fine and dandy when you’re paying these prices and get a service that measures up, but when I have to fork out a dollar short of a hundred for a service like this with polish that didn’t even dry properly, what’s a girl to do?

A: Simply put, the service I received today at Fifty Freed did not constitute the pretty penny I paid for it. I was nicked during my pedicure more than once by a nail technician who was distracted by and fiddling with her mobile phone the entire time, the paint job on my fingers and toes are subpar at best and not to mention the hidden costs (deposit and gel removal) that were not mentioned anywhere on their page at all. I intended to pay $68 (as advertised) for everything but ended up paying $83. I will conclude by saying that this was not my worst mani-pedi experience ever but I most definitely will not be going back after today.
