Kayaking Pictured Rocks

Kayaking Pictured Rocks was one of the best experiences I have had! I am an avid kayaker, but have only kayaked on small lakes in my standard kayak. Since Lake Superior is more like an inland sea and her conditions are unpredictable, kayaking can be more difficult. So I decided to go with a guide service instead of risking going out on my own!

I researched a lot around Munising, but most companies only offer tandem kayaks and no singles. Since I was traveling solo, that didn’t work for me. When I found Yooper Yachts I was super excited to see that they offered single or tandem! I book almost right away.

The total trip was about 8 miles. We met up early that morning and they bussed all of us to the beach. There was myself, a couple, and a pair of parents and their kid. The group was super small compared to other groups we saw on the water. The guides were also extremely personable and had an actual interest in you! They gave you freedom to roam but also maintained safety.

We saw so many beautiful painted coves and cliffs. We also got to see a shipwreck, which was so cool to me! The water was incredibly clear and in some spots so blue it was almost like I was in the Caribbean.

We saw lovers leap arch and bridal veil falls (not much activity this time of year). Me also stopped at Misquote beach for lunch. We saw kissing rock, and even got to kayak through it! The guides also took us to a large cave that we kayaked inside of.

I was nervous going on a guided trip solo, but It was definitely an experience I will never forget and will 100% do it again when I visit Pictured Rocks again.
