🧡🦀 Chilli Crab
Penang Seafood Restaurant does a decent rendition of Singapore’s national dish. Well-balanced with the spiciness from the chilli and sweetness from the tomato complemented by the silky smooth textures from the eggs, there were no complaints from us about this dish.
🖤🦀 Black Pepper Crab
On the other hand, this dish was a standout. The tingly black pepper was accompanied by the strong aromatic notes from the bits of fried garlic and onions. This was one of the best black pepper crabs we’ve had in Singapore and undoubtedly the stronger crab dish. Do get this when you come here.
🎃🍤 Pumpkin Prawns
We had the greatest expectation for the pumpkin prawns, an uncommon dish where when done right would be creamy, savoury and flavourful. Unfortunately, the pumpkin sauce was dull and bland and needless to say, we were let down. If you’re looking for well-executed pumpkin dishes, visit the zi char at Serangoon Garden Market for an undissapointing pumpkin dish.
🥘 Hotplate Beancurd
The hotplate beancurd was a well-balanced and flavourful beancurd dish. One gripe from my group was that the serving size was a little small for the price.
In short, Penang Seafood Restaurant is a slightly pricey zi char restaurant with dishes that are a hit or miss. If you come here, I would recommend the hokkien mee as they deliver one of the best wet hokkien mee’s I’ve tried in Singapore.
