I got the idea to paint a white cat from @alieyahikaru 's suggestion. White fur can be challenging to paint, so here is my take on it!
I am using watercolor pencils, but you can use regular pencils, watercolor, digital, or any material! If you do digital art, make sure your brushes are on low opacity.
Step 1: Start by drawing circles to get form and symmetry
Step 2: Complete the sketch. Notice that I keep it loose where there is a lot of fluff! as well, I blocked off some areas in the sketch where I will add core shadows
Step 3: We need to pick interesting colors! Even though the cat is white, we can't just shade with gray! Indoor lighting will have a warm(orange) tone and leave cool(blue) shadows. And she is DEFINITELY an indoor cat π
Step 4: So, fill in those shadows on the right side of the body with a mix of blue/purple and gray. In this middle phase, don't worry about texture too much, just slowly build up layers of shadow.
Step 5: You can see I brought that coral into the right side as well.
Step 6: Once we have some decent shading, NOW we can worry about contrast, detail and texture! This is the fun part π You can see in the thumbnail image that I used a gellyroll for the white reflection in the eyes.
Step 7: Finished with the cast shadow on the ground. Do you love it????
