What It's Like to be A Foreign Girl in America

Hello, lemon drops! It's story time again! Do you want to know what it's like constantly juggling 3 COMPLETELY different cultures at all times? It's definitely given me a unique perspective, and UNIQUE FOOD CRAVINGS! 🤣 Come with me to try Khinkali for the first time!!

I'm so excited to be writing a blog post about being a foreign girl in America for you today. It's been a while since I've shared my life with you all, and I couldn't wait for this opportunity to tell you about my entire family living in Liberia!

First of all, my name is Summer, and I'm from MONROVIA , the capital city of LIBERIA, WEST AFRICA. I was raised in England, and attended school there. I moved to America when I was just a child myself, and I spent most of my time craving European foods!

However, I never thought that one day, I would be living in Los Angeles, this huge multicultural city and able to experience authentic European cuisine while living in the cosmopolitan atmosphere of lovely America. That's exactly what happened when I decided to join the Hollywood music industry in Los Angeles. ( I have a lot more about my job, my work, celebrities, and music on my feed if any of that interests you more than my international life. )

When I first heard about my family's decision to move to England, I was skeptical. However, being a child, I had no say in the matter. I fell IN LOVE WITH THAT BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. I NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE. As I've stated before, I come from an extremely high political family within Liberia. So, my father and mother decided to move to America, and to start raising funds to help the villages they preside over that survived the Liberian genocide in the 90s. A lot of my family perished within that war. It was terrible. My father then decided to purchase a small estate for my mother in the United States and to commute back and forth from our 4 family estates in Liberia and to his fund raising destinations in America full time. So, that's their complicated life.

I soon realized that my family's decision was based on a lot of love and passion for their homeland. When I finally moved to Beverly Hills, I was amazed by their resilience and determination to make a new life for their people in a place that was still reeling from war. Together with my cousins, one is a Liberian diplomat, One works with every new president elected and is a permanent law making employee in our presidential system, my father is the chief of the second largest tribe in the entire country , and one other cousin is a founding member who represents our family's political interests within the new continental governing system known as the African Union.

Living in America was a completely different experience for my family and me. We had to adjust to a new culture, language, and climate. However, we quickly adapted to our new life and started building a new life for ourselves in part time in the United States.

One of the things that I loved the most about living in America was the beautiful scenery. The country is filled with breath taking beauty within every section of this beautiful, large, and thriving country! The Appalachians in Tennessee, surrounded by lush forests, and the air was fresh and clean. We also had the opportunity to explore the country's natural beauty by going on hikes, visiting waterfalls, and exploring national parks.

Another thing that I sincerely missed while living in America though was the authentic European cuisine! When living in England, and traveling a little around Europe, the local cuisine was delicious and varied. We had a lot of options when it came to food, and we enjoyed trying new dishes. We also enjoyed trying traditional dishes that were unique to the countries, such as their NATIONAL foods.

In addition to the food, living on 3 different continents forced us to grow as people. We learned a lot about ourselves and the world around us. We also gained a new perspective on life and what it's really like to make a new life for yourself in different countries. I appreciate my family, whatever our differences may be, for guiding and funding this unique life for me to grow up in. My sense of adventure has NEVER dimmed or grown dull!!

SO ON TO MY LATEST ADVENTURE, YAY! YESTERDAY I TRIED ONE OF THE NATIONAL FOODS FROM THE BEAUTIFUL EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRY OF GEORGIA!

I hope that this blog post has given you a glimpse into my entire family's life in Liberia. I love you all, and I can't wait to see you around the feed!
