my ex is long gone but dis spot still has my heart

Quite frankly I’d never be caught dead going to a spot where my ex once brought me but the steak here is so good I couldn’t stay away…

Note that this post was on an invite, but I’ve always been frequenting Fat Belly (FBG) and their other concepts from way before! 😉 So I can truly vouch for the quality of their steaks and the more pricey Meadesmoore at Telok Ayer is one of my fave spots hehehe. 😋😋

I know they recently revamped their menu.

📍Today I tried...

🧀　Raclette ($18)

Ok which genius decided to add raclette to the new menu… I love you. 🥰🥰

While I’m sad to see that my usual order of burrata is no longer possible as it’s not on the menu, I think this more than made up for it. Eat this while it’s hot! Melty, savoury, with a nice fatty crunch from the bacon bits. Best paired with their sourdough!

🌽 Torched Cream Corn ($12)

I usually go for the Pomme Puree which is pure buttery smooth and decadent but I decided to be exciting and try this new addition to the menu. Cooked with white wine and sealed with a smokey kiss of flames!

IMO this was a bit forgettable but maybe that’s because I’m not a creamed corn kinda gal… 😅 I still prefer the Pomme Puree but this is a cute take on the creamed corn and if you love creamed corn, I’m pretty sure you’ll like this. 🫶🏻🤠

🥬 Fried Brussel Sprouts ($14)

Crispy on the outside, while the inside is still tender and soft. 😋

So it has that contrast of textures, amplified by a generous drizzle of granola. It’s both sweet and salty, a flavour combination I’m a super big fan of. I gobbled down the entire bowl (sorry to my dining companion) HAAHA.

If anyone hates Brussels sprouts you must get them to try this and I promise they’d be a convert!

💪🏻🥩 Full Blood Wagyu MS 8/9 Denver ($65)

This is from the area under the shoulder blade. In terms of flavour, this is HANDS DOWN 🙏 down my favourite. This has a bold, meaty richness to it that I LOVE in my steaks. Great for people who like more meaty flavours. 🫦😋

Btw these are the more pricey cuts but the cheapest cut starts from 28 and even though I didn’t have it this round, I can vouch for it!!!!!

🐄🥩 American Wagyu MGS 6/7 Picanha ($55)

From the top of the rump! This is a slightly more fatty cut but it’s well-rounded, balanced cut and very easy to eat. ALSO DELICIOUS! ☺️ Happily gobbled this down in a heartbeat. ❤️‍🔥

Both were cooked to a perfect medium rare — one thing I love about Fat Belly is they always always NAIL the cooks on the steaks.

☕️ Signature Tiramisu ($14)

This is a MUST have for me every time I visit!

The combination of mascarpone, brandy, ladies finger biscuits and coffee just hits right. Not too soggy, perfectly balanced, very creamy. I was just telling the staff how I always head to Meadesmoore to have a tiramisu whenever I’m having a dull day and the one here is $15 vs $22 at Meadesmoore!

Service was fantastic; Karen our host was super hospitable and was chatting with us about everything, the chefs also explained everything before serving. Think of it as a buzzy, casual steak house where the staff and customers are friends! 😆🤩

All in all I forgot how affordable Fat Belly was because I always go to Meadesmoore (my average spend there is $150 per pax…) but after this visit, I’m gonna be coming here a lot more often (again). I actually used to takeaway the food here for special occasions A LOT and maybe it’s time to start again…
