Excited to build a nursery for your little one? Whether you’re a first-time parent or not, it’s always a challenge to feel fully prepared for your baby’s arrival. With so much to consider and purchase, how do you figure out what’s essential versus what’s just nice to have?

In Singapore, like everywhere else, the baby products market is overwhelming, making it tough to separate the essentials from the extras. Let’s be real — many nursery items can be pricey, and we knew from the start that we didn’t want to overspend, especially since babies outgrow things quickly. As much as we want a dreamy nursery, beyond aesthetics, having a well-equipped nursery with the necessary baby essentials in Singapore ensures your baby enjoys the ultimate comfort and security. Here are some key nursery items to include on your checklist!

1) Crib, Crib mattress and bedding // Consider getting x-in-1 convertible smart crib so that you can stretch your dollar by converting it to playpen as your little one grows. //

2) Nightlight // Consider getting a 2-in-1 warm night light with Bluetooth speaker in case you would like to play light music or white noise to sooth your little one. A warm night light is especially important for diaper changing at night. //

3) Baby Monitor // Baby monitor to keep a look out when baby is sleeping and you're finally out of the room to catch up on housework. //

4) Diaper Changing Station (Optional) // Good for those who are still aching from childbirth and can't bend their back or whatnot. Do note that this is an optional item since baby will start rolling and flipping out of the diaper changing station once they gain more flexibility and soon grow out of it. //

5) Waterproof diaper changing pad // A waterproof diaper-changing pad is helpful when it comes to messy diaper-changing time. It also doubles up as a baby mattress protector to prevent the baby from wetting the bed! //

6) Tummy time, playmat and accessories // Babies benefit from having two or three short (3- to 5-minute) tummy time sessions each day. As your baby gets older, you can have longer, more regular sessions throughout the day. //

7) Bed pockets organisers // A bed pocket is really handy when it comes to storing random small items during nappy time. Be it the baby’s pacifier, mom’s hair tie, handphone, airpods and other necessities. They’re so perfect I never regret getting them! //

8) Nursing Cart // Store diaper, diaper pad, diaper cream, ointment, etc. It is super convenient when you can wheel your essentials along with you. //

9) Storage: Organise the Essentials // Storage to store baby clothes, burp towels, towels, bibs, mittens, etc. //

10) Odourless Diaper Bin // The regular bin doesn't seem to be able to seal the strong odour of the pee and poo coming from dirty diapers. I personally feel that a diaper bin is a good investment as it keeps the odour at bay. There are just too many diapers to change for a newborn every single day! //
