OIL CLEANSE

i start with the oil based cleanser to remove makeup, excess dirt. This is great if you have large sebaceous filaments (aka the pores on your nose and cheeks) because it dissolves the natural oils that harden and clog pores. I think the ordinary is good because it’s noncomedogenic (good for acne prone skin).

how it works: The oils from the cleanser are combined with the oils and dirt on your skin. The oils then emulsify with water to create a milky texture that can be rinsed off easily. Rub for 3-5 minutes for optimal results.

WATER CLEANSE

The second cleanser i go in with is panoxyl. I use the 4% as it’s more gentle for daily use than the 10% option. Which i’ve heard bleaches things?? The 4% is just as effective as higher doses and causes less irritation.

EXFOLIATOR

After that i go in with exfoliator. This has the same mechanics as toner, however I don’t repeat this step every night as to not ruin my skin barrier. In general, more acidic, or low pH, products provide greater exfoliation and more penetration for the skin.

TONER

after exfoliating i use a toner. I use the ordinary glycolic acid. It works by stimulating the production of collagen, which is the main structural protein in the skin, it also helps with skin repair and regeneration. Glycolic acid is an AHA. Compared to others, this AHA has the smallest molecular structure, which allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin. If i’m not using exfoliator I will tone as it’s more suitable for everyday use. But 1-2 times a week I will exfoliate then tone, then start with skincare.

RETINOL

After this, it is a great time to apply retinol. Retinol is a form of vitamin A, which promotes skin renewal and promotes collagen production. APPLY ONLY AT NIGHT, as it can be broken down by ultraviolet light and make skin sensitive to sun damage. It’s good to build up your tolerance to retinol as it can be drying, I use it twice a week. You can also use spot treatments and other medications at this point.

SERUM

After skin medications, wait 15-20 minutes for everything to sink into skin for them to self neutralize and dry up into your skin. After this you use serums. I know I didn’t make a slide for this, but that’s because it’ll vary from person to person. I use hyaluronic acid to help my skin hold onto water, aka moisturizer. Then I use niacinamide after this (helps protect skins surface and prevent moisture loss).

MOISTURIZER

FInally, the last thing I do is put on moisturizer. More often than not I will use an extra layer, about a pea sized amount of aquaphor or vaseline to really set things in place. Pro tip - when i use all of these I also do not neglect the neck!

Let me know if you guys would like any more detail of any product! These are all products I use at NIGHT. Not saying I have the credentials, Im just someone who spends a lot of time grooming myself, what works for me might not work for you. And remember, consistency pays off! :)
