How I’m Teaching Words to My 10 Month Old

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been really focused on trying to teach my daughter words. She’s quickly approaching one and I want to make sure that I’m doing everything I can to teach her!

I’ve always been the mom that talks to their newborn and infant. We’ve read my daughter 3 books every night ever since she came home from the hospital. Whenever I’m changing her diaper, I always talk to her and tell her what I’m doing.

I wanted to start doing more educational things to teach her words now that she is more aware and understands things. There are a few different ways I’m trying to teach her…

01. Interactive word book: this book by Leapfrog is a great way for babies and toddlers to learn words. They can push the button on the page and it will say the word that’s in the picture! It also sings and is very interactive.

02. Flash cards: I’ve had these flash cards since my baby was a newborn. At first we used them for her to look at since they’re black and white. Now, I use them by saying the animal on the card so she can see the picture of it.

03. Holding an object while saying what it is: This is the most common and easiest way to teach your baby words. I’ll hold something, like a ball, and repeat ball while showing. Now whenever I give her something, I always make sure to say the word!
