How To Care For Your Retainers: The Dos and Don’ts

I hope these tips help! Whether you’ve been wearing retainers for years or just started, it’s important to maintain good hygiene when it comes to caring for your retainers.

I got lingual braces (braces on the inside of my teeth instead of the traditional ones on the outside) a few years ago. Long story short, I had always been insecure about my teeth. My insurance under my parent’s wouldn’t cover braces for me because my teeth “weren’t bad enough.” When I was 19, I finally saved up enough money and paid out of pocket for braces! They were $5,000… so after they got taken off, I knew I needed to do everything I could to keep my teeth straight. I would hate for all that money to be a waste!

I’ve kept my retainers in great condition by following the dos and don’ts I’ve provided. I wear them almost every night. When I take them out in the morning, I clean them by using dawn dish soap and a soft-bristled tooth brush. I store them in their container and make sure to keep them safe. Retainers are so expensive!! Taking care of your retainers properly will make them last a lot longer and you won’t have to replace them as often.
