Don’t get me wrong..I think that barbell squats are still a great compound movement.

But depending on your goals there are safer exercise options that are just as, if not more, effective than barbell back squats for MUSCLE GROWTH.

Some of these movements include…

-Hack squat > my personal favorite machine. Allows you to go heavy + get deep into the squat while maintaining a more controlled movement.

-Leg press > allows you to really focus on targeting specific leg muscles while minimizing stress on the upper body/core.

You could also try smith machine squats, belt squats, or landmine squats. Just to name a few more.

If the goal is to GROW specific muscles you want to be doing movements that allow YOU to effectively target those muscles.

There isn’t any one movement that is one size fits all. What works for someone else might not work for you and that’s totally fine.

Play around with different movements.. maintain controlled form and pay attention to which ones elicit a strong mind muscle connection for you.

Remember that ultimately the movements you choose to do really come down to personal preference and biomechanics.
