BOOK REVIEW: Divine Rivals By Rebecca Ross

even though divine rivals is a fantasy book and takes place during a war, i would say it is very character driven. i actually did enjoy the whole magical typewriter aspect and the war between gods but the characters MAKE THE BOOK! i think the biggest criticism about divine rivals is the lack of complex world building which is a valid point but the vibes were just so good you kinda overlook it (at least i did). in my honest opinion since the characters are so well developed, the whole fantasy world aspect kinda takes a backseat because the book isn’t about this fantasy world and the war that is going on, it’s about the CHARACTERS and what they are going through that just so happen to be living in a magical world.

i loved the writing style of this book. i think it’s beautifully written. the letters were probably my favorite part of the entire book. i’m not gonna lie i did tear up while reading some of the stuff Roman and Violet wrote to one another and don’t even get me started on Roman! i love that man so so much. he couldn’t walk to her anymore so he CRAWLED ugh i can’t!

overall, i think this book was a 4.5⭐️ for me! i can’t wait for the second book to come out because the ending has me worrying!! HIGHLY recommend this book if you’re new to fantasy and/or love a good romance subplot!
