I can’t believe it’s coming up on one year since I visited the Marquette/Munising area in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I went the first week of October and we were able to see peak fall colors. It was BEAUTIFUL!!!! It really felt like I walked into a Halloween movie.

We spent a day visiting Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Munising area, another day checking out downtown Marquette and surrounding area, one day visiting different beaches and hiking trails, and another day enjoying our campsite. During our trip, the temperature had highs in the mid 60s and lows in the upper 40s. To me, this was perfect hiking weather, but too cold to really enjoy the water! We definitely want to visit again when the weather is warmer so we can do some kayaking and swimming.

There was a noticeable amount of tourists at Pictured Rocks, but I wouldn’t consider it crowded. Marquette and Munising were definitely quiet at this time of year, and some of the hiking areas that were recommended to us were completely empty!

I’d say if you can handle the temperature, October is a fabulous time to visit the UP to explore its natural beauty and historical and cultural significance.
