Freaknik

Beginning in 1983 as a small picnic for students at historically Black colleges and universities in the Atlanta University Center who couldn't afford to go home for spring break. In the 1990s, Freaknik grew in size and popularity, incorporating a variety of events including dance contests, concerts, parties, a basketball tournament, rap sessions, a film festival, and a job fair. It further attracted hundreds of thousands of people and became known as "Atlanta's most infamous street party" Freaknik was known for its wild and raucous atmosphere, with people dancing on car hoods, snarling traffic, and thumping music. Freaknik was known for its fashion, with people wearing outlandish outfits, Nike Cortez sneakers, African American College Alliance sweatshirts, and tennis skirts with pagers clipped on.
