Traveling solo? Here’s what you need to know!

I embarked on my first solo trip to Tokyo this year in march 🫶🏻 as someone who loves to plan, is anxious and an extrovert, these are some tips i curated for those who are planning to travel alone ✌🏻🙆🏻‍♀️

1️⃣ Remember to plan!

Flights 🛫 and accommodations 🏨 are the most important as you’ll get to lock down the dates you’re traveling along for and where you’ll be residing 💯

After, i start planning where I want to visit such as events or attractions! (I use klook to book most of my entry tickets) 🗺️🗿

For my itinerary and day to day plans, I plan it around the food places id like to visit 🗾🌠

2️⃣ Get ready to face hiccups alone!

Don’t worry about this. It’s quite daunting facing an unexpected challenge by yourself at first but you’ll be able to get through it! 🥹

My first challenge was that i could not access any data due to my SIM card not working 😞☹️ So i and to buy a new one on the spot. It was pretty nerve wrecking without data as I had to scan their immigration QR codes but i got through with the shitty airport Wi-Fi 🥲🙃

Hiccups are bound to happen but you can easily plan around it and just adapt to the situation alone, youre friends and family are just a phone call away for comfort too 😉😗

3️⃣ Plan your meals wisely! You only have one stomach

With a lot of food places i wanted to try, i had to remind myself to not overeat 😅 and keep some tummy space for other foods I wanted to try 🤓 Being one person means ordering can get tricky 😩

4️⃣ Don’t be afraid of people judging you when you’re taking photos

Go live your best life bestie 😚🥳 Don’t be afraid to snap photos, selfi or even record yourself while youre solo traveling 🤭 No one is going to remember u as that weird tourist who took a selfi of themself so just do it! *TIP: Bring a tripod for nice OOTD photos

5️⃣ Be-friend anyone

(I’m not saying there’s no stranger danger but) 🫣 As i travelled to japan, everyone i met was relatively nice, so i managed to make small talk to random tourist and store owners ☺️

If you like socializing and are traveling alone, hostels are a great way to meet likeminded travelers 🤩 Also if you have friends residing in the country you are visiting it’s the best time to get a free tour guide and catch up with them 🙌🏻💯

Overall traveling solo has taught me to keep an open mind and adapt to any unforeseen circumstances as thing in your itinerary can always change. I look forward to traveling solo again and I hope these tips helped! 💯✌🏻🫶🏻
