Ossu minna!💜

I’ve noticed that there are quite a few questions asking how I become a teacher in Malaysia. And to be honest, there are a few ways to enter this work force. So, let me just share what I know about what paths after SPM leavers can take to become a teacher.🧑‍🏫🤔

1) Institut Pendidikan Guru🏫

This is the most common way to become a teacher. However, by joining IPG, you can only become a primary school teacher at first.🚸 If you would like to become a secondary school teacher, you would have to go for further studies in masters first before you are qualified.📚 Normally you will spend 5 years in IPG, 1 year to study for foundation, and another 4 studying for a degree.

Some of the benefits to being in IPG is that you are guaranteed a posting after you finish your studies, and you will also get a monthly allowance during your studies. 💲

2) IPTA 🎓

So, universities like UPSI, UM, UPM etc all have teaching courses. You just need to make sure to enroll for the programs with Bachelor’s of Education to make your application to become a teacher stronger.🧑‍🏫 You can enter these universities by making an application in UPU.👍

Unlike IPG graduates, you can immediately start teaching from secondary school level, and even international schools or private schools as you are not bound by contract to become a teacher. However, you can also apply for primary school level teaching if you’re interested if I’m not mistaken.🤔 You are not guaranteed a posting despite so, and you would have to apply on the SPS website. 💻

3) IPTS 🎒

As an IPTS graduate that was also on the brink of becoming a teacher, I can definitely say that this is also one of the routes you can take if you don't choose IPG or IPTA.👍✨ Again, look for the programs that are Bachelor’s of Education to ensure that you take your internship at schools and you are more qualified in your SPS application after. ✅

Like IPTA, you are not bound by contract and you are not guaranteed a posting. But that gives you more flexibility on where you want to work as a teacher. 🧑‍🏫

There are actually a lot of other miscellaneous programs from time to time too, but I don’t really know much about those as I’m not involved with them. But I hope that this post is still helpful!

If there is anything else though, please feel free to share in the comments below as I am sure that a lot of people would like to know and it would be very beneficial.✨✨

Yours truly,

Neesha💜
