hey zesties 🍋

i left my marketing job in an e-commerce company to pursue a career in software engineering, and it seems many of you are interested too!

sharing my journey going into software engineering 🫶

education 👩‍🎓

i graduated from a local polytechnic and then graduated with a degree in marketing.

i then enrolled into a bachelor of science in computer science course in a private university and was offered exemptions due to my prior degree. i still had to take some bridging courses such as computer architecture & programming. since the course was part-time, i studied after work.

during that time, it was covid circuit breaker, so after a day of WFH, i switched from my work laptop to my personal one to attend class. i sat at my desk for over 12 hours a day. i overloaded on modules to clear the degree faster, and it was really stressful i almost wanted to drop out (i don't recommend it 😭😭) it was lonely and i did not have much social life for the 2 years i was studying. i paid off my school fees with my income from my full-time job 🙆🏻‍♀️

training 🔨

before i even graduated from computer science, i started applying for roles in the field. i had ZERO internship experience and the only project I had was my final year project (FYP), hence I applied for fresh grad roles that provided training and there were many options from companies such as: Infosys, Cognizant, DXC Technology (i'm sure there are more, under IMDA programme).

i got paid to be trained for Angular + Springboot 🤑

work 👩🏻‍💻

before i even graduated, i landed a full-time position and

i now work as a fullstack software engineer doing... *drumroll* Angular and Spring 🤣 pretty much what i was trained for. i really love what i am doing right now as i get to solve technical problems every day.

let me know what else you want to know about my work journey, and I might just share them in my future posts ❤️
