What Even Is Angioedema?

Angioedema a skin reaction that causes swelling in tissues under the skin. The cause is unknown, but stress, infections, and exposure to heat or allergens may trigger it.

Right before I ended my Aupair program, I started looking at cars and all the logistics of traveling throughout the United States while doing van life living in a car.

This definitely stress me out a lot just because I was not financially as stable as I would have hoped, and I was struggling to find a car in my budget for also being able to pay for my visa in Exchange. Because of all the stress, I started getting hives for the first time all over my body and had other symptoms such as dizziness, weight loss, and swelling of my lips.

I didn’t think much of it besides that I am stressed for a brief second, I thought I was allergic to avocados but that was not the case.

After sharing photos of my lip swelling with my previous host mom (who is a trauma nurse) she told me that I might have angioedema. After research and comparing the symptoms to my symptoms, it seems like it might be a possibility, especially since there are no known causes for angioedema but only symptoms of swelling in the face. If the swelling does not stop and is a constant reoccurrence, it could lead to your throat, swelling up and having problems breathing, which is clearly a big health problem.

I am trying to sort everything out ASAP. Just to make sure if it is stress that it does not turn into a severe health problem but for now I am making sure all my clothes are re-washed just in case there was any pollen on the clothes that would have caused the reaction.

Has anyone else ever heard of this? How did you treat it?
