MY FIRST APARTMENT— Move-In Cleaning 3 🧽 🗒️

☝🏽 WINDOWS ARE NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN

This is the messiest and my least favorite part of moving in and I really wanted to hire a cleaning company to do it. I couldn’t find one that would do a one-off visit so I just did it myself. I recommend laying down towels before starting to catch as much of the water as possible. I use water instead of window cleaner for the first clean because it’s not just the glass I clean but the frame too, on the inside and outside. With towels to catch most of the mess, cleanup is much easier 😮‍💨

✌🏽 WALLS, WALLS AND YES, WALLS

When I moved into my apartment, the walls were supposed to have been repainted and any nails left by the previous tenant removed and the holes filled. None of that was done. The stains keft on the walls were also pretty gross. Some places looked like shiny bald patches. the paint was so worn. I removed all the nails, took photos of all the holes and stains and when the handyman came to take down the weird shelf in the kitchen, he was kind enough to fill the holes, sand and repaint the patches for me. He even left me his paint tools so I didn’t have to buy any and I was able to repaint and touch up to my heart’s content 🥹

Finally. after all that it’s time for those finishing touches. Literally, all the places we touch most — door knobs, handles, light switches and sockets all get a firm wipe down and polish. ✨
