Getting your first tattoo? Here are my tips

My observation is that many individuals spend a lot of time worrying about the discomfort of getting their first tattoo as much as the appearance. These are two crucial factors to take into account, but at least you can be quite certain that your tattoo artist will go over them in depth with you before you start. You would be losing out on a lot of other crucial aspects that I go over here if you only focused on the image and the discomfort.

Here are something to think about, my top 3 things I usually consider for someone who has 5 tattoos!

1. Type of tattoo

You can either get hand poked or machine. Hand poked tattoos are less painful but more ticklish and itchy because it’s the constant jabbing at your skin. It also doesn’t penetrate as deeply as machine tattoos. One might prefer hand poked if they like crayon or faded style tattoos.

2. Placement of tattoo

The site you select may restrict the size of your tattoo, but more significantly, it may have a significant influence on how it affects your life. I am aware from personal experience that visible tattoos have a significant effect on how your family, friends, coworkers, and employers see you. If you operate in a job where it's necessary to seem professional, this matters. For those who work corporate jobs, a full sleeve tattoo might not be the best idea (unless you can cover it up)

3. Meaning of tattoo

I can’t emphasise this enough, the meaning of your tattoo will carry on forever. Fun fact, this tattoo was a friendship tattoo but we are no longer friends. There is no "correct" justification for getting a tattoo. Your motivation is valid as long as the tattoo has some sort of significance, no matter how small.

I hope this helps you have some thinking points before getting your first tatt! I would say I love all my pieces - maybe regret the friendship one unless you’re 10000% sure y’all will remain friends forever LOL.
