Here’s a story sharing and tips on dealing with light coloured carpentry specifically with laminates from my personal experience.

During the handover of our house, I was checking through our carpentry work and we had chosen an oat / cream colour laminate for most of our carpentry. We realised that the carpentry had black / dark lines across all of the edges and it was contrasting and distinct against the light coloured laminates.

Here’s why: Due to the back of most laminate pieces being dark brown, it leaves behind a black trail when pieces are conjoint.

The end result with it was really ugly and we knew we had to get it concealed. After speaking with our ID, there were 2 suggested ways to fix it.

ABS trimming, is a way of concealing the seams or joint lines between the edges of two surfaces. Interestingly, by default (at least with my ID firm), the edges of the cabinet doors come with ABS trimming, but not the other parts of the cabinet. So be sure to check in with your ID on this during the quotation stage and before starting carpentry works!

Painting over it. This is what we opted for to conceal all the ugly black lines on our carpentry.

Hope this comes in useful in your reno journey! ❤️
