Many people go to the Smith machine thinking it will be easier, BUT if you do Smith machine squats with any foot and body position other than duplicating a regular back squat, it's possible you may impose unnatural stresses on your joints.

So how to do it right?

Hold your chest and head high, pull your shoulders back and down, and keep your spine in a neutral position. Shift your weight to your heels, place your hands on your hips, then gently guide them backward as you bend your knees to lower into a squat. Focus on working the hips backward while maintaining a neutral spine.

When you put the barbell on your shoulders/back put it a bit lower like me in the photos. The barbell should not sit on your shoulders, it’s supposed to be more on your back.

When you go up and down, try to squeeze your glutes and your core, so it will be more effective.

* recommendation, think about the position in the squeezing while doing the exercise, your body and brain automatically will do it like you think.
