Currently listening to the fabric of our souls by K.M Moronova on audible, and Iâm currently on chapter 38. This book has 46 chapters plus an epilogue.
Spoilers*
I wish that Wynn and Lanston were the two main characters in this book, and Liam was the side male character. These two characters had way too much in common and way more chemistry for them not to have ended up together. I was hoping that the author would have given us at least one kiss between these two characters, SOMETHING you know. The most they did was get too touchy feely with each other in front of Liam. Both Lanston and Wynn had acknowledged how they were basically the boy/girl version of each other. I feel like Lanston and Wynns relationship was healthier and they both could have helped each other heal once they left the rehab. I feel like the author should have given us a love triangle, it would have made the story more interesting and entertaining. Not sure why the author wrote the relationship between Lanston and Wynn in such a way where the reader would be rooting for the main female character and the side male character to be together instead of us rooting for her and the main male character to be together. I didnât care for her and Liam as a couple, they were toxic together in my opinion.
If Iâm being honest this is how I would have wanted the story to go. I would have wanted the story to have been about her and Lanston as a couple. I feel like the story would have been so much more beautiful since Lanston is such a gentle and caring soul. They could have helped each other heal once they left rehab since they didnât want to die anymore. Both Lanston and Wynn would have moved to Boston and lived together in an apartment. Liam would have transferred to a rehab center in Boston to be close to Wynn and Lanston, where they would visit him often. I think Liam still has a lot of healing to do, and should focus on himself and his recovery.
I do not like Harlow Sanctum, Iâm not sure why the characters in the book keep calling the place âunorthodoxâ. Thatâs a strange way to describe a place that is highly illegal and should be shut down. First of all why is a place where the disappearance of 6 patients occurred still open? Why are both men and women sharing the same bathroom? Not even public places allow that. Not only are they sharing the same bathroom, but I think the showers are exposed with no curtains. Which means that the patients can see each other naked while showering. This also means that when the patients are having sex in the bathroom, they are just doing it out in the open for others to see gross. Also I donât think the patients should have roommates. I think everyone should have their own room. The reason why is because in my mind Iâm thinking what if one patient unknowingly triggers another patient, while theyâre in their room and a fight breaks out. Plus some patients are dangerous and can hurt their roommate physically for no reason.
Also why are the patients able to lock their rooms and have access to sharp objects like keys? Itâs so unrealistic to me that Liam has access to a whole ass knife at a rehab center. It doesnât matter if itâs a self check in facility. Literally none of this would happen in real life. Self check in facility or not. Why arenât the staff taking away objects that could hurt the patients? Why do the staff at Harlow just let these patients hurt themselves? This is sooo unprofessional and unrealistic. Then you have staff cursing freely, like Harlow is so ghetto to me. The staff there just lets the patients do whatever the hell they want. They could leave the place past curfew, they could leave freely and go into town. Like this is crazy. How is anyone suppose to heal and get better in a place like that? At this point Iâm starting to think that Harlow is just a big ass castle like apartment building for the mentally ill, where they just pay 6,000 in rent every month to stay there. Itâs like the patients there are just paying for the luxuries that Harlow has to offer more than theyâre paying to get better.
Crosby/Perry went missing after Liam got seriously hurt in the green house and none of the staff thought to look into his disappearance. It just feels to me like the staff donât give a fuck about patients going missing because they feel like itâs a self check in facility and probably is guessing that Crosby/Perry just left. Harlow staff does not seem to care about their patients and thatâs scary.
I would literally think my brother hated me if he sent me to a rehab like Harlow Sanctum to get help for my mental health, and I would have checked out immediately after finding about that the men and women had to share the bathroom.
Liam needs to transfer to a rehab facility that is more strict and actually enforces their own rules. Harlow does not enforce their own rules. It seems way too easy for a patient to kill another patient or for a patient to take their own life at Harlow. The patient could just lock their doors so no one can come in. If Liam hadnât come to the bathroom that morning Lanston would have been dead. The staff should be escorting patients to the bathroom to make sure they donât do anything to harm themselves. If Lanston hadnât come to the green house when he did Liam would have bleed to death. It would have been Harlows fault too because why are patients just allowed to walk around the property all willy nilly alone.
Liam canât heal in a place like Harlow because they allow him to have sharp objects that he can use to hurt himself, and he pretty much can go anywhere and do anything he wants there. Then you have the counselor blaming Liam for not being able to play the piano, when the counselor knows that Liam already blames himself for a lot of things and thatâs why he punishes himself by hurting himself. That was highly unprofessional of the counselor to say something like that to Liam. Also why isnât the counselor taking steps to ensure that Liam canât hurt himself like this. The counselor was mad when Liam and Wynn snuck out of the building past curfew. But again why didnât the counselor take steps to make sure that Liam and Wynn couldnât sneak out again by having a guard stand at the entrance that Liam and Wynn snuck out of. Harlow sanctum is a joke.
For 6,000 a month youâre sending your loved one to Harlow to get better and heal, and instead they can do whatever they want, and go wherever they want. The staff arenât enforcing the rules and regulations to protect the patients. Patients are getting murdered/harmed by other patients. They have access to shit they can use to harm themselves with, and can take their own life there. The place should be bulldozed.
Yalina âclaimedâ to âloveâ Liam but left him for dead at the maze. If Wynn hadnât called the police, they all could have died. Anyways Liamâs mom is evil, instead of getting Perry help when she noticed his shift in behavior after the crash, she used Perry to inflict pain on Liam. Also why did Perry get sent to a self check in facility instead of a more secure and strict facility? Itâs sad because Perry is a good person but Crosby isnât, and Liam might have to kill his own brother, when Perry isnât even aware that heâs been hurting people for years itâs sad. I wonder why Crosby never changed back into Perry while he was at Harlow. Also how come the staff did not realize how dangerous Perry/Crosby was, and had him transferred somewhere else? Thereâs just a whole bunch of negligence happening at Harlow.
Overall this book pissed me off, Harlow is highly illegal, and the staff there are negligent and unprofessional. The author chose the wrong guy as the main male character. Iâm convinced her brother hates her because he sent to a place where she could have gotten killed. Itâs worse because the place where her brother works owns that building, so you mean to tell me he didnât look into the history of that place before sending his sister there. He had to have known how highly âunorthodoxâ the place was, and he still sent her there. I have beef with James idc. The mother ainât shit, and I feel like she always had it in her to be evil even when Neil was alive, she just needed a reason to be, and she found her reason. The book was kinda boring and needed drama, which is why a love triangle would have livened the book up a bit.
