I haven’t processed the whole thing yet buuuut… we went into our 37 week ultrasound on Wednesday and the next day got the call that he wasn’t growing and was in the 17% percentile overall and his abdominal circumference was only 2%. They said I needed to be induced that day.

We hurried up there on Thursday morning and I spent a day and a half with horrible contractions and the most pain I’d ever felt in my life. It took them two separate tries to get an epidural to work and it took quite awhile to kick in.

Once the epidural kicked in, I really slept most of Friday from at least 7am to 3pm. When I woke up, they told me that the pitocin they had given me to induce labor was making Emmett’s heart rate drop so they had to stop it. They also said that I was starting show signs of severe preeclampsia. This led to the decision to have a c-section instead so that Emmett would have the best chance to thrive outside of the womb.

The procedure lasted maybe 7 minutes and then I had a baby in my arms. I talked through most of it to calm my nerves and the doctors made jokes to distract me. My husband got to be there with me and that was comforting and calming for me too (he took lots of pictures that I will be posting soon).

That’s basically it! One day I’ll write out a more thorough story but if you have ANY questions, I’m happy to answer with what I know from my experience.
