things you should know as a freshman in college

hey everyone! long time no see 🤧. i’ve been really busy with nursing school and i officially finished my first year!!!

i’m making this post for all incoming freshman college students who are either really excited, nervous, or both and just need some tips on how to make the most out of their experience.

🩷 make connections with you professors: so so so important to do so if you want that LOR from them! attend their office hours, review sessions, say hello to them before class, or even you can email them to grab coffee! i love most of my professors and try to keep in touch with them.

🩷 don’t rely on your academic advisors: hmmm for most of my college folks you might understand this one. in my own experience i’ve had to tell my advisor my own plan because they tried to make me take a class i already received AP credit for… i get it. advisors have many students to meet with but still! at that point just please use your degree audit and search for you major and what classes you’ll need to take in order to graduate

🩷 make friends: college has been truly the highlight of my life. i’ve made so many friends throughout college and especially in nursing school and we always study together, go out to eat, rock climb, clubbing, etc.

🩷 join a student org, volunteer, work, research, etc.: haha funny enough i do all four! i just recently joined student council for nursing, i volunteer at a cat shelter, i work as a tech in a hospital, and i am participating in research. it truly sounds overwhelming but it’s great to have a schedule and just focus on a few things at a time. i want to make a separate post to talk about these things.
