I’m going to defend myself here that I absolutely LOVE awfully chocolate but somehow their standards recently has dropped so much. From converting the cafe to just retail spaces (JEM outlet) to not even having their signature ice-cream available…that’s not it.

Let's start with their outlet at Star Vista, which is an absolute delight to be at, the environment and decor was on point…but the food on the other hand…

🍦Single Scoop of Vanilla Ice-cream $5.90

Rating: 0/10

If you know about Awfully Chocolate, their signature product would be their ‘Hei’ ice-cream which is a perfect addition to their cake slices. But when I visited with my friends, they didn't have it available. Instead they had vanilla ice cream as a substitute. Now that isn’t too bad until we tasted it. The ice cream was super icy with the taste of watery ice…If they were going to charge $5 for this serving I’d rather go to NTUC and buy a tub of vanilla ice-cream which would have tasted better and saved more money…

🍰Opera Chocolate Cake $10.90

Rating: 8/10

A basic chocolate cake with a layer of caramel goodness in the middle of the slice. What I love about their chocolate cakes is that is is moist and not dry. The caramel adds to the sweetness of the entire dish and makes it a nice compliment to the chocolate cake which might be slightly bitter.

🍰Raspberry Chocolate cake $10.90

Rating 7/10

With a layer of raspberry jam in the middle of the chocolate cake, this wasnt particularly my favourite because the raspberry added a little sour taste to it. And I am not a big fan of sour desserts.

Overall, I would come back only come back if they have the ‘Hei’ ice cream in stores. Else, for the price I’m paying it definitely isn’t worth if I’m getting very mediocre ice-cream that was badly stored and doesnt really add to the flavour profile of such amazing cakes.
