Speech Room 🌈

Things in my Speech Room that Just Make Sense:

1. Mirror with cue cards: It’s so important for kids to understand how their mouth should be moving to create certain sounds. I always teach this and model for them, but it’s good for kids to take a look in the mirror and see what they’re doing too. They love to practice their target sounds in the mirror (and sometimes just make silly faces 🤪)

2. Interactive Bulletin Board: I found this on TPT from A Perfect Blend Teaching and it’s the best! I have this big bulletin board in my room so why not use it for learning instead of just displaying something cute? I usually let the kids stand up as the “teacher” when we’re reviewing the target of the week and take turns picking the next one.

3. Covered toys & games: I love using toys and games in therapy, but I don’t love how distracting they can be when we AREN’T using them. My biggest tip: always keep them put away and covered! Even if that means covering a shelf with paper or fabric (I used a shower curtain from Target).

4. Magnetic storage: I found these magnetic containers at the Dollar Tree and they’re the best! Perfect for storing all my mini erasers and I can keep them within reach on the white board.

5. Cart for Supplies: Speaking of keeping things within reach, I love my little supplies cart. I keep it next to our work table, so I can easily reach items we use every day.

6. Word lists: Another great TPT find, also from A Perfect Blend! I love that they also have pictures of mouths and descriptions of how to produce the sounds. I keep them hanging on hooks near my work table. Sometimes we use them together and sometimes students use them on their own. I keep them laminated so they can also write on them with dry erase markers.

7. Family Photos: to keep me sane. And also, how cute 🥰
