I recently took a break from hitting the gym for about 5-6 months. π π»ββοΈ weight training, π π»ββοΈ squats, nada. Instead, I was obsessed with spin classes π΄ββοΈ hitting them 2-3 times a week. Fast forward to me scrolling through old photos, and I notice my butt shrunk significantly! π
I knew taking a break from the gym might lead to some changes, but I wasn't expecting my π to say bye bye sayonara ππΌ It was a harsh reminder of how important strength training is compared to just doing cardio.
πLet's break it down
ποΈββοΈ Benefits of STRENGTH TRAINING ποΈββοΈ
- burns more calories when youβre resting
- builds lean muscle mass
- shapes and sculpt the body
- can target specific muscle groups for definition
π΄ββοΈ Benefits of CARDIO π΄ββοΈ
- burns more calories during the workout
- increases endurance and stamina so you wonβt get tired easily
- strengthen the heart muscles
- boost mood
πͺπ» While I was dedicated to my cardio routine, I also noticed that my muscles on my biceps and quads started to shrink. I started to see my skin feel flabby instead of feeling toned. This happens because cardio workouts primarily focus on cardiovascular endurance and calorie burning, rather than muscle building. Without resistance training to stimulate muscle growth, muscles can atrophy (shrink) over time, resulting in a loss of muscle mass and definition.
π₯Έ So, while both strength training and cardio have their unique benefits, incorporating a balance of both into your fitness routine can maximize your results and overall health. Don't let your booty bid you farewell like mine didβhit those squats and/or deadlifts, and let's sculpt our bootayy together! πππ
